Nita Beecher of Mercer’s ORC Networks discusses some of the challenges for in-house counsel and corporate compliance professionals when they add global responsibilities to their other duties. Nita points out that employment law outside the US does not recognize “employment at will” and is driven by either employment contracts or statutory requirement. While in the US pay differences between men and women is prosecuted under discrimination laws, outside the US the concept of “equal pay” is more focused on “fair pay” requiring employers to pay men and women the same for equivalent jobs as well.
